New Zealand’s Genesis Energy is seeking approvals to build a wind farm with up to 286 turbines in the southeast corner of the country’s North Island.

The Castle Hill project in northern Wairarapa would have a potential capacity of up to 860 megawatts – enough for about 370,000 average households. It would cost about $1.34 billion and take five or six years to complete.

Genesis says that the Castle Hill site has excellent wind resources and suitable topography for access and construction although it is a remote area that is relatively sparsely populated.
