The global renewable company, SunEdison, has joined Solar Choice in its proposal to develop a giant solar farm at Bulli Creek in south-east Queensland.
The Toowoomba Regional Council has approved the staged construction of a 2 gigawatt solar farm on a 5,000 hectare site near Millmerran south-west of Toowoomba.
The proposal is to built multiple 100 megawatt-plus stages over a period of eight years with construction commencing in mid-2016.
When complete, the solar farm could be the largest in the world. Even the first stage could be the largest solar farm in Australia. Currently, the world’s largest solar farm is Solar Star, a 579 megawatt near Rosamond, California, while Australia’s largest solar farm is the 102 megawatt Nyngan solar farm.
