The Australian Capital Territory parliament has approved legislation to extend feed-in tariffs to medium-sized solar power plants.
The law will increase the size of projects eligible for feed-in tariff support from 30 kilowatts to 200 kilowatts. The assistance to larger projects should be available by the end of the year.
The ACT government introduced feed-in tariffs for solar power projects of up to 30 kilowatts in 2009. There have been more than 3,500 installations since then.
The new bill caps the total deed-in tariff support at 15 megawatts of micro installations and 15 megawatts of medium-sized generators.
