The first commercially licensed grid-connected wave-energy farm in the United States is to be built by Ocean Power Technologies – a company founded in Australia.

The first wave power device is planned to be launch in October about four kilometres off the city of Reedsport in Oregon.  The company has a permit for up to 10 generators and an underwater substation, which will produce 1.5 megawatts. The project could eventally be expanded to 50 megawatts.

Ocean Power Technologies also has a demonstration site off Portland, Victoria which is to be scaled up to 19 megawatts with a potential to be increased to 100 megawatts.
