The New South Wales State Government has granted approval for the first phase of the Silverton Wind Farm The approval covers the installation of 282 turbines near Silverton in the far west of New South Wales. The project is being developed by the Conergy subsidiary EPURON GmbH.
The second phase of the $1.8 billion project, for another 316 turbines, is also in the approval process.
With 598 turbines in total, the Silverton Wind Farm will be one of the largest on-shore wind projects in the world. With an operational capacity in excess of 1,000MW, the wind farm will generate approximately 4.5% of New South Wales’ current total power consumption. In a typical year, the electricity generated from the site will be equivalent to the consumption of over 430,000 NSW homes.
