U.S. solar thermal developer, BrightSource Energy, and Europe’s second largest power-equipment maker, Alstom, say that they plan to expand their geographical partnership to India and Australia, where solar conditions best suit BrightSource’s tower technology,

BrightSource Energy recently anounced that it has reached the halfway mark of construction of the world’s largest solar thermal project – the 392 megawatt Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System in California’s San Bernardino County.

Alstom and BrightSource are also collaborating on a series of solar research and development activities focused on storage and hybridisation with fossil fuels.

The Ivanpah project is expected to be completed next year, after which the companies will look for further solar thermal opportunities elsewhere.
