The Australian Industry Group has has released the results of a survey which found that two-thirds of businesses reported having achieved improvements in their energy efficiency in the three years to 2012.
In the previous five years (to 2010), only one-third of businesses said that they had achieved improvements in energy efficiency. Three-quarters of repondents said that they are currently planning to make improvemts in energy efficiency.
The most common action taken by businesses was to change staff practices to encourage energy efficiency.
Nearly 60% of businesses said that would only be motivated to undertake an energy efficiency project if the expected payback period was less than three years.
11% of the respondent businesses were using onsite electricity generation as a way to manage their electricity costs. Most of these were large businesses and used all of the generated electricity onsite, rather than selling any back to the grid.
