Axedale Solar Farm

UPC\AC Renewables Australia is proposing to build a solar farm on a 365 hectare non-irrigated, mostly-cleared site used for sheep and cattle grazing and dry land cropping. It is located about seven kilometres north east of the small central Victorian township of Axedale, near local quarries and gold mining operations.?

Rows of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels will be installed on a single axis tracking system in either a 1P or 2P configuration that follows the path of the sun, while also allowing adequate space for sheep to continue grazing on the land in-between and underneath the panels.

The site will consist of 160MWac PV and up to 50MWh battery storage and will connect to the existing 220kV Bendigo – Shepparton line via a dedicated on-site substation, and the developer is exploring the potential for using grid-forming inverters to provide additional system strength. They also intend to retain and conserve the existing patches of native vegetation, and will trial sheep grazing once the project is constructed.

The solar farm is expected to create up to 300 jobs during construction and produce enough clean, renewable energy to power 55,000 Victorian homes via an existing transmission line that crosses the site. Futher information about how local business can get involved is available on the project's community information section of the website.
