Clayton Landfill

Energy Developments Ltd operates a number of landfill gas power plants at various locations around Australia including at the Clayton Landfill in Melbourne which produces about 10 MW of electricity.

The gas  extraction system consists of well drilled into the landfill. The wells are fitted with wellheads comprising valves and flow meters to control the flow from each well. An underground pipeline network connects the wells to a central gas compression and processing plant. Gas blowers maintain vacuum on the gas extraction system and compress the gas to the pressure required for supply to the generating plant.

All of the power produced is sold at the local electricity distribution utility.
