Invicta Sugar Mill

For every 10 tonnes of sugarcane crushed, a sugar mill produces nearly 3 metric tonnes of wet bagasse, the fibrous material left over after juice is extracted from sugarcane. When burned by a sugar mill, this usually produces more than enough electricity to power all of the mill’s operations.

The Invicta Sugar Mill, south of Townsville, operated by Sucrgen (formerly CSR), generates 50 MW of electricity from bagasse. 30 to 40 MW is exported to the grid.

Company: Sucrogen

Capacity (MW): 50

Status: Operating

Start Year: 1976 (9MW); 2.5MW in 1975; 38.5MW in 1996

Technology: Cogeneration

Fuel: Biomass - Bagasse

Estimated Output: 118 GWhr p.a.
