Jemalong CSP Plant

Vast Solar is planning to develop a 30MW concentrating solar thermal plant at Jemalong about 30 kms west of Forbes in central western NSW.

This follows development of a 1.1MW pilot plant at the site. This grid-connected modular pilot plant includes 3,500 heliostats spread over 5 towers, each about 30 metres tall includes a 1.1MW turbine that will deliver power to the grid.

If the pilot is successful, Vast Solar plans a commercial scale concentrating solar power project with a capacity of 30MW and 4 hours of molten salt based thermal storage to deliver low cost, highly efficient storage at a fraction of the cost of traditional battery storage.

Construction of the commercial plant is expected to commence in late 2018.

Vast Solar is also planning to construct a 50MW solar PV plant in parallel with the concentrating solar plant.

In October 2018, Vast Solar withdrew its application for approval of the project.
