Sapphire Wind Farm

Wind Prospect CWP is developing a wind farm with two potential design layouts; one consisting of 125 x 3.4 MW wind turbines and the other 159 x 1.5 MW wind turbines, spread over 22 different properties. The choice between these two design layouts is largely dependent on the availability of wind turbines for the project. However, the same envelope of land will be utilised irrespective of the final selection.

The installed capacity of the wind farm is planned to be 318 MW.

The proposed Sapphire Wind Farm will be located 18 kilometres west of Glen Innes in New South Wales.

The project received planning approval from the NSW Department of Planning & Infrastructure in July 2013.

Consttrucion was originally expected to begin in mid-2014 and take 18 months to complete. However, in March 2016, the company secured a contract to supply 100 MW capacity to the ACT and announced a revsied timetable of commencement in january 2017 with completion in mid 2018.

In December 2016, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation agreed to loan $120 million towards the $588 million project.

In May 2018, the wind farm began supplying 100MW to the grid.

In October 2018, Flow Power signed a power purchase agreement to take 50MW of output from the wind farm.
