Whyalla Greensteel Pumped Hydro

After purchasing the Arrium Steelworks in Whyalla and a controlling interest in the Australian battery maker Zen Energy, GFG Alliance has announced plans to install 1,000 MW of dispatchable renewable energy in and around Whyalla together with a 100 MWh lithium-ion battery to be built in Port Augusta.

The project is to include a 120 MW / 600 MWh of pumped hydro facility at a disused iron ore mine pit in the Middleback Range is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
