Woolnorth Wind Farm

Woolnorth Wind Farm is located at Woolnorth on Cape Grim at the northwest tip of Tasmania. It has 62 wind turbines with a generating capacity of 140 MW of electricity.

The first stage of the power station, with six turbines and a capacity of 9 MW, was completed in August 2002. The second stage, adding a further thirty one turbines and 54 MW of generating capacity, was completed in 2004. Stages 1 and 2, together, are sometimes called the Buff Point Wind Farm.

Stage Three, the Woolnorth Studland Bay site consisting of 25 turbines was completed in May 2007.

It was developed by Roaring 40s, a partnership of Hydro Tasmania and TRUenergy. With the breakup of the partnership, Woolnorth wind farm was taken over by Hydro Tasmania.
