THE first commercial solar farm in New South Wales has been approved for construction near Nyngan.
The $300 million Nyngan Solar Farm will be constructed by the renewable energy company, Infigen, and the solar panel manufacturer, Suntech. It will be located on 200 hectares of land about 2 kilometres from the Nyngan township.
The solar farm is set to have a capacity of 100 megawatts enough to power about 20,000 homes.
Seventy blocks of solar panels will be installed between one and three meters above the ground and will feed power directly into the grid via the existing Nyngan substation which is immediately adjacent to the site.
