The 400 kilowatt Fraser Coast Community Solar Farm has been officially opened in Hervey Bay, Queensland, by Queensland Energy Minister Mark McArdle.
Project contractor, Ingenero Pty Ltd, said that the $2.7 million project is currently Queensland’s largest ground-mounted solar installation. It consists of 1,630 ground-mounted monocrystalline solar panels from Suntech, two 330 kilowatt PowerOne central inverters and pile-driven foundations by solar mounting system manufacturer Schletter.
The project was funded by the Queensland Government and the electricity which it produces will be used by the Wide Bay Water Corporation.
Ingenero has a solar demonstration area at the site, consisting of five small solar systems built using five different solar panel technologies.
