Brisbane Markets is to install 1.06 megawatts of rooftop solar panels, making it the largest privately owned single rooftop solar installation in Australia.
The installation will consist of 3,350 Jinko Solar 315 watt modules with ABB/PowerOne Inverters. The installation is to be carried out by Todae Solar.
Construction is to commence early in 2015.
Meanwhile, the South Australian Government has called for proposals to develop a solar array for the 8 hectare roof space of a former Mitsubishi and Chrysler plant at Tonsley, south of Adelaide. Depending on the result of the tender, this is likely to become the largest publicly owned single rooftop solar installation in Australia.
The rooftop would allow 25,000 square meters of solar panels to be installed. This could potentially generate 3.6 megawatts of electricity – three times the amount of Australia’s current largest solar rooftop array, the 1.2 megawatt installation at the University of Queensland.
