Homes and businesses in the Adelaide CBD can now get grants of up to $5,000 to install battery systems to store power generated by rooftop solar panels.

The Council already offers grants of up to $5,000 toward the cost of rooftop solar panels as well as grants towards electric vehicle charging stations and upgrades which make apartment buildings more energy efficient.

The rooftop solar programme has been extended to small and large businesses, schools and community organisations as well as households.

Adelaide City Council said its battery storage programme was the first of its kind in Australia and would benefit both its ratepayers and the environment.
