Senvion Australia (formerly REpower) has received approval from the South Australian Government to develop a 197 turbine wind farm south-west of Ardrossan on the Yorke Peninsula.

The wind farm will be connected by an undersea cable across Gulf St Vincent to the South Australian transmission network.

The project is expected to cost $1.3 billion with consttruction to commence late in 2014.

When complated in 2016, the wind farm will have a capacity of 600 megawatts and will be the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere.
