AGL Energy has officially opened Stage 1 of its $236 million Hallet wind farm in South Australia. Stage 1 has 45 wind turbines and will produce about 95 megawatts per year.
Stage 2 is currently being constructed. When the fourth and final stage is completed in 2011, the wind farm will be operating over 232 wind turbines and generating a combined capacity of over 460 megawatts.
Michael Fraser, AGL’s Managing Director said that “Wind energy is the fastest growing global renewable energy source and AGL believes wind will be the most significant renewable technology able to provide the scale required to satisfy our country’s renewable energy requirements for the next decade.”
