Two new solar farms are to be built in the A.C.T. as a result of the second round of the Government's latest solar auction.

The Chinese company, Zhenfa Solar, will build a 13 megawatt solar farm on Mugga Lane and Australia’s Elementus Energy will build a 10 megawatt solar farm at Coree near Uriarra Village.

The first round of the A.C.T. solar auction was won by the Spanish company, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, which is building a 20 megawatt solar farm near Royalla just off the Monaro Highway in Tuggeranong.

The A.C.T. Government plans to bring another 650MW of renewable energy generation to its region in order to reach its target of 90% renewable energy generation by 2020. The Government already has legislation in place to auction up to 210 megawatts of renewable energy capacity and will decide how the additional capacity will be achieved once the current auction process has been reviewed.
