The U.S. Navy is investigating the possibility of using Australian biofuel.
The U.S. Navy’s Director for Operational Energy, Chris Tindal, has flown to Australia to inspect a pilot biofuel production plant developed by the Queensland University of Technology at Mackay.
QUT’s Professor Sagadevan Mundree said that “QUT is the only institution in Australia with the capability of demonstrating a diverse range of waste to biofuel technologies at the pilot scale.”
The U.S. Navy wants 80,000 barrels of biofuel by 2016 and to have half of its fleet running on alternative fuels by 2020.
